AFGHANISTAN-GEOGRAPHY

Afghanistan is located in the middle east and is roughly the size of Texas. So it is a big piece of land.  It is in a mountainous region and shares it borders with 6 countries.  Can you see all 6 countries?
Picture
The climate can be quite extreme with very cold and snowy winters and very hot dry summers.   In fact the country for the most part is very dry and desert like when it's not winter.

Afghanistan has many resources that remained untouched for the most part like natural gas and petroleum.  There is also coal, copper, gold, salt, iron and gemstones.

Despite the abundance of resources the majority of Afgahns are tribal and live in kinship based groups who follow their own traditions. They often live in rural areas and farm. There are around 31 million people in Afghanistan (there are 38 million people living in California).   99% of Afghanistan is Islam and of those people 89% practice Sunni Muslim and 10% are Shi'a Muslim.  Much of how they live hasn't not changed in a 100 years.
