Chapter 9 The First Years of the United States

George Washington has a lot of issues to deal with when he becomes president.  Will the United States Constitution last through rebellion or will it falter like it did with Shay's rebellion.  The United States is greatly in debt how will we repay our loans from the Revolutionary War? How will the United States react to foreign disputes? This unit will examine the first years of President George Washington's life in office and how he tackles those issues.  In addition, we will be discussing what it means to be a citizen and what are your duties and responsibilities as an American citizen

What are some domestic and foreign problems that face the new U.S. nation?
What are political parties?  What are their purposes?

Outline of Events

March 3: Students got tests back and retake information. Ppt and notes over citizenship.  As a class we take the citizenship test online.  Would we pass?
March 4: Play immigration game, discuss current immigration issues, and ppt over challenges George Washington faced.    
                      -Assignment: Rights Worksheet
March 5:   Finish ppt from Friday and complete  Venn Diagram over Shay's and Whiskey's rebellion.  - Assignment: 9.1 Questions on page 282 1, 2, & 4.  
March 6:  Students work in pairs to read about the French Revolution article and take notes over the article. Then we watched part 1 of a video  over the French  Revolution.          
March 7 :  Continual discussion on French Revolution and comparing it with American Revolution.  
                  END OF TRIMESTER- All Final redo projects are due!
March 10:  Comparing and Contrasting French and American Revolution
March 11:  Wrap up foreign policy issues with ppt. Start the discussion on political parties.  Are you a Fun-a-ton or Smartypants? 
March 12: Students take survey to see if they are a republican or democratic.   
March 13: Finish discussion of Republican and Democrat Political parties. 
March 14: Students read pg 173-177 in We the People Textbook and fill out notes on political parties chart.  HOMEWORK: Political Party Worksheet
March 17-21: SPRING BREAK
March 24:  Review
March 25: Test (Review Session before school 7:30-8:25)   GAME: REVIEW 1   &  REVIEW 2
