Unit 7 Foundations of Government

Picture

After the Revolutionary War, the founding fathers had a great task before them.  They needed to set up a government that will last throughout the ages.   The first attempt didn't work with the Articles of Confederation.  The second attempt is much more successful however it took many compromises.  A compromise over slavery will cause much tension between the North and South and eventually lead to the Civil War.  We will learn more about the Civil War in a different chapter.  This unit will focus on the compromises made, what the role of government should be, and how the American government works.    Below is a list of essential questions/learning targets for the following chapter.

Essential Questions/Learning Targets
1) What are the different types of government?
2) What are the main parts of the Articles of Confederation? Why did the articles fail?
3) What conflicts do the states have when writing the constitution?
4) What are the three branches of government and what are their duties?
5) How does the election process work?
