Unit 13,14,&16  Causes of the Civil War

The tension between the North and South have been building since the constitution was written.   In the past unit we discussed the debate over federal and state rights. South Carolina even threatened to pull out of the union if the tariffs were not nullified.  This unit will continue to build on the tensions between the two sides.   We will examine how the different economies between the North and South and the western expansion led to the Civil War. There will be a great focus on how slavery played the most significant role in the breaking of the two sides.   In addition, students will be examining what life is like as a slave through an interactive online video game and by examining primary resources.

Essential Questions
1) What is slavery like?
2) What caused the Civil War?
3) Who are the first 16 presidents?
