Reconstruction

Standards:
8.06   Examine the functioning of government established by the Constitution.  
8.08   Communicate historical learning to a variety of audiences using a variety of formats.
8.09   Understand historical patterns, periods of time, and the relationships among these elements.

Learning Target:
  1. How did Reconstruction fail?
  2. How do you analyze a political cartoon?
Success Criteria:
1A) Students can explain the destruction in South after the war and why reconstruction was needed. TEST WEDNESDAY 9th 
           - Reconstruction Brief overview  
          -  Read introduction  (THIS DISCUSSES DESTRUCTION)

1B) Student can identify the difference between Presidential and Congressional Reconstruction. TEST WEDNESDAY 9th  
            - Johnson's Plan Video
            -Radical Republican's Pans  Video

1C) Students can explain the political struggle between the federal and state governments when trying to reconstruct the South.    TEST TUESDAY 21st 
This video is a great review that covers the ideas that are listed below.  Johnson Video (Start 4:00 & Finish 10:45)
             -Federalism: Video about what Federalism  
                            Key Terms: National Government, State Government, 10th Amendment, 13/14/15 Amendment, Elastic Clause/Necessary and Proper, & Supremacy Clause
             -Vetoing: Veto Explained (This is similar to the Federal government numbers are different) 
                             Key Terms: 2/3, Vetoing, Override, Congress, President, Civil Rights Act/Freedman Bureau/Reconstruction Act, Johnson, & Radical Republicans
             - Impeachment: The Road to Impeachment (This is a great read through and clearly illustrates what lead up to impeachment.) 
                             Key Terms: House of Representatives, Senate, 2/3, President, Radical Republicans, Tenure Act, & Impeach

1D) Students can identify the intended purposes of the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments, along with ways the South kept African Americans from achieving those freedom. TEST FRIDAY OCTOBER 31
